The demand for green and low-carbon energy continues to be released, and the market size of lignin calcium sulfonate is steadily expanding

2026-07-26

Since 2026, domestic downstream industries such as green building materials, ecological agriculture, and environmentally friendly water treatment have accelerated their upgrading. Market demand for lignin calcium sulfonate, a high-quality bio-based functional additive, continues to rise, and the industry is entering a fast track of standardized and high-quality development. Relying on core advantages such as renewable lignin raw materials, environmental friendliness and pollution-free design, and stable performance, calcium lignin sulfonate is gradually replacing traditional chemical additives, with market penetration continuously increasing and industry scale achieving steady growth.

According to the latest industry white paper, by 2025, the annual consumption scale of domestic lignin raw materials will exceed 800,000 tons. Among them, calcium lignin sulfonate, with its excellent water reduction, binding, dispersion, and slow-release properties, accounts for over 35% of mainstream application scenarios. The corresponding market size reached 2.406 billion yuan, an increase of 8.3% compared to 2024, with the industry's growth resilience continuing to stand out. From a global market perspective, the market size of calcium lignin sulfonate is estimated to reach 1.2 million tons by 2026, with a market value exceeding 1.8 billion USD, and is expected to maintain stable growth over the next decade.

The core drivers of industry growth come from multiple policies and market dividends. The Ministry of Ecology and Environment and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology jointly released the "Technical Guidelines for Synergistic Enhancement of Pollution and Carbon Reduction in Key Industries (2025 Edition)," which for the first time lists calcium lignin sulfonate as a core alternative raw material for traditional dispersants and sustained-release carriers, setting substitution rate targets for concrete admixtures, compound fertilizer granulation, and dye dispersions. The 2025 substitution rate requirement is to be raised to 12.8%, a significant increase from the previous year. At the same time, domestic infrastructure investment is steadily advancing, rural construction continues to be implemented, and the newly started housing floor area remains high, continuously driving core rigid demand markets such as concrete admixtures and refractory adhesives.

Industry analysts say that with the global wave of low-carbon substitution for synthetic additives, the application boundaries of bio-based calcium lignin sulfonate will continue to expand. Beyond traditional building materials, the proportion of applications in oilfield additives, feed processing, and fine chemicals will gradually increase. It is expected that by 2026, the domestic industry market size will maintain a growth rate of over 6%, and the development potential of the green bio-based chemical track will continue to be unleashed.
